If you’re anything like me, the idea of shoving yourself in a line with hundreds of other people just to wait for a new tv does not sound like a relaxing day off.
If you’re looking to spend your Black Friday in the quiet and calm, you should definitely take advantage of the winter camping deal going on at all Ohio State Parks.
Thanks to the Department of Natural Resources, all camping fees will be waived for Friday, November 24. Some of the parks require reservations, but the majority accept walk-ins.
Hi! Thankfully, Ohio State Parks are free to visit 365 days a year (only 1 of 7 states to do that!). We are also waiving campsite fees on Black Friday (Nov. 24) to encourage people to #OptOutside instead of spending the day shopping. As far as services provided during winter camping, it varies by location. Some parks have their full amenities available, including electricity, shower houses, dumping stations, and access to water, while others are more primitive. You can check ODNR’s website for information about specific campgrounds.
The free camping from ODNR was inspired by a larger campaign by outdoor store REI to encourage people to spend black Friday outdoors, instead of in stores and malls. REI’s #OptOutside campaign closes all of its stores on Black Friday and actually pays employees to spend time in nature.
It may be a little chilly out for camping, but with the right gear, you can have a great time being thankful for our beautiful state parks.
