How To Donate To Thrift Stores During Coronavirus

There are many steps in dealing with the reality of staying at home all of the time, and one of them is definitely the deep clean.

It seems to hit people at different times, but at one point or another, I think those of us fortunate enough to have a place to call home have looked around and thought, “I don’t need all of this stuff.” Getting rid of some old stuff and going all Marie Kondo isn’t a bad thing, but it is a little difficult to figure out to do with said items in the middle of a pandemic.

Although most thrift stores around Columbus have paused donations, there are some options left, even if the circumstances are a little different than normal.

For furniture, you can schedule a pick-up of larger items from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. You can check out the items you can and can’t donate here, and then call 614-364-7028 to schedule your donation. The ReStore isn’t accepting any donations on site right now.

Goodwill Columbus is accepting donations at its Dublin, New Albany, and Hilliard locations. You won’t interact with any employees, due to social distancing. Those looking to donate will drive-up, leave their items near the blue donation bins, and then leave. It’s that simple! Donations will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you’re looking to donate clothes and you don’t mind doing it virtually, you should definitely look into ThredUP. It’s one of my favorite places to shop and it’s a great way to get the clothes you’re not into anymore to someone who wants them. Although donations for cash and credit are a little backed up right now, you can also opt to donate your items. Your good deed will give $15 to Feeding America.

No matter how you choose to donate your items, I hope that cleaning out the old is helping you bring some joy back into your life. I went through this little phase about a week ago and I have to say, it was pretty great.

Have fun tidying up, my friends.
