Mayor Ginther Wants To Have Designated Areas In The Arena District Where People Can Drink Outdoors

Mayor Ginther has submitted and application to create a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in the Arena District.

The DORA would encompass Nationwide Arena, Huntington Park, and the New Crew Stadium. The designated areas would allow residents to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating bars and restaurants and then take those drinks with them outside and into other participating eateries and retail shops within the designated area.

“We’re eager to gather public feedback on such an exciting proposal,” said Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy. “This designated area is primed to be a popular destination for residents to enjoy many memorable evenings while frequenting local businesses and taking in a game.”

Patrons will be able to enjoy an alcoholic beverage in the designated area during all home Columbus Blue Jackets, Columbus Clippers, and Columbus Crew game days, beginning three hours prior to the start of the game and continuing until 11:59p on that same day.

Residents can view the full application here. A copy of the application will also be available for the public to view in the Columbus City Clerk’s office.

Any resident wishing to provide testimony during the virtual hearing should email Lucy Frank at [email protected] by noon on the day of the hearing to request a WebEx speaker link. Each speaker will be limited to remarks lasting no longer than three minutes.

This hearing will be live-streamed and posted on the City of Columbus YouTube channel following the event.
