COVID-19 Cases Are Increasing In Ohio But We Can’t Give Up Now

There has been a lot of good news in regards to COVID-19 lately.

Vaccinations are increasing and that’s definitely worth getting excited about. But cases in Ohio have also been on the rise. There are over 1,000 Ohioans currently hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s a significant increase after a brief plateau. Yesterday, over 2,500 new cases were reported in Ohio.

These aren’t the highest numbers we’ve seen here in the Buckeye State, but it is still concerning. 2.2 million Ohioans are already fully vaccinated and a million more have begun the vaccination process.

Three new variants of COVID-19 have been identified in Ohio, and some of those variants are up to 50% more transmissible. 18,741 Ohioans have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began. To put that into perspective, that is an entire Nationwide Arena hockey audience, and it’s entirely too many.

As more and more Ohioans are vaccinated, we still need to wear masks, practice physical distancing, and frequently wash our hands. In a recent press conference, Governor Mike DeWine emphasized the importance of getting back to COVID-19 basics.

“Our understanding of this virus and how it spreads is much more advanced than it was when we first learned about coronavirus in early 2020,” said Governor DeWine. “As we move to begin a new chapter in our fight against the pandemic, where more and more Ohioans are being vaccinated, this new order will focus on our best defense measures against COVID-19, such as wearing a mask, social distancing, limiting large gatherings, being outside, and practicing good hand hygiene.”

All Ohioans over the age of 16 are eligible for vaccination. If you need more information about scheduling your vaccine, please click here. To check out Ohio’s COVID-19 Data, please click here.
