You Won’t Want To Miss COSI’s BIG Science Celebration This Week

One of the biggest celebrations of science in Columbus is nearly here.

May 1-4, the 2019 COSI Science Festival will culminate with celebrations all across the city, and a big event along the Scioto Peninsula.

On Friday, May 3, the festival is promoting space exploration with a Citywide Star Party. Held at 15 locations across Columbus, the party will run at COSI from 7:00-10:00 pm and will include activities, music, food trucks, and, of course, COSI Planetarium.

At 8:30 in COSI’s Planetarium, Dr. Eric Smith, chief scientist of the James Webb Space Telescope Program at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., will present the upcoming mission’s unique technologies and their potential to enable extraordinary scientific discoveries, followed by a Q&A.

On Saturday, May 4, the event will include dynamic experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.

Visitors can build and launch their own rockets throughout the day at West Bank Park. Dozens of exhibitors will be on hand to offer activities and fun interactive experiences. And it wouldn’t be a festival without some live performances! The Main Stage, located in Genoa Park, will host a full line-up of awesome.

    11:30am – Momentum Celebrates Science

12:00pm – Animal Encounters with Coyote Peterson

1:00pm – Human Periodic Table with CAS

2:00pm – Flame Test Balloons with Battelle

    2:30pm – #COSISTEMStar Celebration

3:30pm – Meet the Honda Innovators, Live!

4:00pm – The BIG Finale on the English Plaza

That BIG Finale is promising to be explosive. There aren’t too many specifics, but COSI says to get your phones out and ready, so I am guessing we won’t want to miss it.

Because COSI knows that Science isn’t just for kids, they’ve got some sweet events lined up for adults throughout the festival as well. From science trivia at your favorite bars to digging up secrets through Forensic Anthropology, there’s a lot of nerdy stuff happening and you should probably start clearing your calendar now. Here’s the full line-up of Adult Science Series.

It’s time to channel our inner Mark Watney, everybody!
