Construction Begins On The New Hilliard Branch Library Project

The new Hilliard Branch will be the latest library remodeled for CML’s 2020 building program.

Columbus Metropolitan Libraries have just begun construction of the new Hilliard Branch remodel project. The branch aims to be the system’s largest CML branch library at 60,000 square feet, triple the size of the old Hilliard location.

New features to the two story community space include a cafe, meeting rooms, a special Ready for Kindergarten area, and a Homework Help area. The renovations come as part of CML’s building program to overhaul all of their existing locations. Just recently Columbus saw the addition of the reopening of the Northside Library, making it a larger space with many of the same added features planned for Hilliard’s new design.

The idea is to have the Hilliard Branch up and running by 2018 with all of their locations remodeled by the year 2020. So far seven branches have already reopened with planning underway for the Martin Luther King Branch and the Dublin Branch.

Hilliard’s newest library location will go into the clubhouse of the former Hickory Chase Development. The site was originally meant to house senior citizens but the project foreclosed in 2009. With Columbus Metropolitan Libraries leaping at the opportunity to build on the grounds, the property will no longer go by the wayside, abandoned and unutilized.
