Straight From Dimension C-1998M, Rick’s Favorite Szechuan Sauce Will Be Coming Back To McDonald’s For One Day Only

We all knew this day would come eventually. But now, it’s finally here. Szechuan Sauce is returning to McDonald’s: for one day only on Saturday, October 7.

If you’re not a Rick and Morty fan, this turn of events is probably strange to you. So let me give you a little history.

Rick and Morty are time/space travelers. Rick is Morty’s grandpa, and they get into all sorts of insane adventures throughout the course of the show. But one of the more iconic moments is Rick’s meltdown about McDonald’s Mulan Szechuan Sauce.

Rick and Morty is the kind of show that doesn’t just have a fan base. It has an obsessive, loud, and devoted fan base.

McDonald’s has decided to tap into that energy by re-releasing this sauce.

Rick and Morty creator Dan Harmon shared his thoughts with Polygon. Although he didn’t know that McDonald’s would be bringing the sauce back, he didn’t seem to mind.

“Look at that art, look at the font,” Harmon said. “Look I’m not being sarcastic when I talk about this. If anyone from McDonald’s is reading this, I don’t see anything wrong with what they’re doing and clearly, neither does their legal department.”

The artwork for the campaign does have a distinctly Rick and Morty vibe, even if the fast-food giant isn’t coming right out and saying it. McDonald’s did hint that the sauce could be making a return earlier in the summer when they sent some to the Rick and Morty team.

So where can you get your hands on that teriyaki-goodness?

The only location serving the sauce is 1972 N. High Street, 43201, in the heart of OSU Campus.

The restaurant is giving away 1,000 limited-edition, hand numbered, screen-printed posters for all 10 sauces in their lineup, including Szechuan Sauce. Here are the 4 locations around Columbus that will be handing out the limited posters (while supplies last).

  • 381 E. Main Street, 43215
  • 910 W. 5th Ave., 43212
  • 4131 Morse Crossing, 43219
  • 3095 N. High St., 43202
