Columbus Crew SC vs. FC Cincinnati In U.S. Open Cup Round 4

Tonight in Cincinnati, Columbus Crew SC will take on FC Cincinnati in a U.S. Open, Round 4 match.

For the first time ever, the two Ohio teams will go head to head, and the crowd sizes have reached 25,000 and growing.

According to both Coach Gregg Berhalter and Midfielder Niko Hansen, Crew SC is ready to go. “We’re prepared,” said Hanson. “And we’re ready to win it.”

Berhalter echoed that sentiment. Tonight may be special for the fans, but for the players and coach, they’re treating it exactly as they would any other match. They want to win.

“We’re going in to go to the next round, said Berhalter. “We know that it’s going to be a difficult game– it’s going to be a charged game, but the goal is to advance.”

FC Cincinnati is hoping to take one of the four available slots to joining the MLS this year. The lists of pros and cons are equally matched, but a new rivalry with Columbus Crew SC could really point the MLS in FC Cincinnati’s direction.

FCC has big dreams, and the city has supported professional sports teams for years. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati. Will another great rivalry be born tonight? We’ll have to wait and see.
