On Saturday night, the Columbus Crew ended their season holding the MLS Cup.
The Crew beat the Seattle Sounders, 3-0, with Lucas Zelarayan scoring two goals and Derrick Etienne scoring one. This is the second time the Crew has won the MLS Cup, with their first win back in 2008.
Fans were treated to an incredible season from the Crew, but after it was announced that Pedros Santos and Darlington Nagbe would miss the match after testing positive for COVID-19, many wondered how the team would fare against the Sounders.
Luckily, we didn’t have anything to worry about. It’s been a tumultuous few years for the Columbus Crew. The Crew, who entered new ownership in 2018 after a fan-led movement to keep the club in Ohio, overcame incredible adversity to lift the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy in MAPFRE Stadium over the weekend.
Fans around Columbus were quick to share their excitement and support of the team.

The Steelers losing now means the superior Black and Gold franchise in the universe is the #Crew96.
I'm sorry, I don't make the rules.

Ohio native Drew Carey even took a moment to compliment the team on their win. Which is pretty gracious considering he’s an owner of Seattle Sounders FC.
Congrats to @ColumbusCrewSC 2020 #MLSCup Champs
So proud of @SoundersFC and the entire @MLS no matter what tho. What a thing you all pulled off in a year like this.
Lots of love and respect to all of you.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go punch a wall.— ʎǝɹɐƆ ʍǝɹᗡ (@DrewFromTV) December 13, 2020
It’s been a long journey for fans, players, staff, and ownership of the Crew. There were times when it wasn’t even clear if Columbus would have a team at all. But the hard work of the fans saved the Crew, and the hard work of the team brought glory to Columbus.
So thanks, Columbus Crew, for one heck of a season. We can’t wait to see what you do in that gorgeous new stadium next year!
