Let’s be real. For most of us, it’s the second one. Friends are great, but waffles are– waffles. Because of the joy we all feel for the fluffy, delicious breakfast food, I’m sure we can all agree that another waffle-spot is a good thing.
Belgian Iron has been on my mind for a while now, and the wait to taste their delicious creations is nearly over. In January, they will officially open their doors at 19 W Russell St. in the Short North.
Belgian Iron will specialize in a new type of treat, the Liege Wafel. These waffles are different than the ones we’re all used to.
According to their website, the Liege Wafel is made with “proprietary wafel dough recipe, not the soupy batter you grew up with. The wafel itself has real Belgian pearl sugar carefully folded into the dough by hand. When that cooks between two Belgian-imported cast irons, the result is fantastic – a soft, flaky wafel on the inside and a little extra sweet crunch of caramelized sugar on the outside.”
