10TV Makes National Headlines After Failed Weather Warning During Elite 8 Game

I’m going to tell you all something that may shock you. I’ve never been a fan of Ohio State Basketball. I know, it feels dirty to even say it out loud. I’d never root against them, but growing up, they just weren’t my go-to basketball team. My college team, my ride or die, is the Kentucky Wildcats. Which brings me to the awful business of yesterday evening.

As many of you know, we had a tornado warning here last night in the capital city. This weather event happened to coincide with the Elite 8 March Madness game being played, which normally wouldn’t be a big deal. Except for our otherwise lovely WBNS 10TV, the local CBS affiliate, had some massive technical difficulties.

At what will possibly go down as one of the most insane moments in NCAA Basketball history, 10TV interrupted coverage of the game to alert residents of the impending weather. However, the video stream wasn’t working correctly, so instead of splitting the screen or at the least actually showing the weather man, we got to watch an empty black screen.

So instead of seeing UNC’s Luke Maye hit the game-winning shot with 0.3 seconds on the clock, anyone watching basketball in Columbus got to watch a black screen. As usual, people in Columbus were pretty vocal about it.

At first, I was angry, but then I realized 10TV was just sparing me the pain of watching my team get knocked out of the tournament, further damaging my already maimed bracket. So while everyone else is angry, I’m just gonna say this to 10tv. Good looking out, way to have my back. Plus, they remedied the situation fairly quickly.

And even though it’s painful, I can officially say, I’ve seen the end of the game now, and it was exciting to the final second. In case you missed it, check it out below.
