10 Things You Need To Do Around Columbus Before The Holiday Season Is Over

The holiday season is drawing to a close, which means there’s not much time left to enjoy everything the city has to offer.

From beautiful light displays to gingerbread house contests to a Victorian Christmas at the Statehouse, here are the 10 things you need to do around the city before the season ends. Get going, before it’s too late!


Gardens Aglow

What: The Franklin Park Conservatory will host Gardens Aglow for just two more weeks. The botanical garden has come alive with holiday lights. There are three, beautiful ornament trees, a Paul Busse model garden railway, family activities, and special entertainment. Tickets are $14 for adults, $11 for seniors, and $7 for children.

Scioto Mile

What: The Scioto Mile is illuminated with 250,000 twinkling lights for the holiday season. Stroll along the river and take in the sites before they’re gone.

What: The Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is one of the biggest events in Columbus. The whole zoo is decked out in thousands upon thousands of beautiful lights. Admission to The Wildlights is included in Zoo admission. Please click here for tickets.

The Nutcracker

What: The classic holiday ballet will be performed for audiences at the Ohio Theatre, with the final performance of the season on Christmas Eve. Tickets start at $49 and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.

Ohio Statehouse Holiday Tours Featuring Victorian Decorations

What: The Ohio Statehouse is all dressed up for the holidays. Guests can step back in time on this free, guided tour of the Statehouse and see holiday decorations the way they were in Victorian times. Walk-in tours of the Statehouse meet in the Map Room.

Holiday Carriage Rides

What: Looking for a one-horse open sleigh? Easton is offering their last weekend of Holiday carriage rides. Tickets are $10 per person. Children under 15 ride for free with a paying adult. You can catch the carriage outside of Zara on Gramercy Street.

Gingerbread House Competition

What: Nothing quite says Christmas time like a row of the prettiest gingerbread houses you’ve ever seen! This year, the Franklin Park Conservatory is hosting a month-long gingerbread house contest. Special guest judges will name 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in four categories: youth (12 and under), teen (13-17), adult (18+) and family. Tickets are available here.

Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival 2017

What: The Ohio Expo Center is hosting the annual Ohio Chinese Lanter Festival. These color displays are enchanting for all ages. Ticket prices vary from $10-$40 and can be purchased here.

Holiday Lights at the Columbus Commons

What: Each night, 320,000 LED lights dazzle in the Columbus Commons. Walk through the lights, enjoy the Yule fire burning on the big screen, and enjoy the illuminated city while it lasts. The display is free and open to the public.

Holiday Market at North Market
