After several months of planning and construction, the Blendon Woods Natural Play Area refurbishments are complete. The grand reopening festivities will take place on Sunday, May 21 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The project to revamp the playground began in January of this year. A slew of fun new activities have been added to encourage natural, imaginative play for kids.
The Natural Play Area refurbishments are thanks to a grant from the REI Coop and a generous donation from the Zugaro family.
After the untimely passing of Tim Zugaro in February of 2016, his wife Michelle wanted to honor her husband’s memory. Tim and their daughter Maris loved exploring Columbus’ Metro Parks. The Zugaro Family decided to give a generous donation in Tim’s name to the Columbus Metro Parks. Blendon Woods was one of the parks Tim and Maris would visit frequently. Thanks to the generous donation, other families will be able to enjoy the outdoors together.

One of seven Natural Play Areas in Columbus’ Metro Parks, the Blendon Woods playground, will now feature a zip line across a creek, a spider web cargo net, swings, a teeter totter, and more. Children can play on the new equipment, build forts from tree limbs, make fairy houses, and enjoy free ice cream during the festivities.
